Yensen Sierra Lambert has been involved with the AP Spanish Language and Culture program for 16 years. Her experience ranges from teaching at the middle and high school level to participating in the annual AP Reading as a Table Leader to co-authoring an AP Spanish textbook. Her objectives as an educator have been to help students become culturally competent during their AP course experience, to prepare them for the world beyond AP, and to foster enthusiastic interest and love of the Spanish language.
She has presented at APAC on behalf of the AP Spanish Language and Culture program and participated in AP Live/AP Daily videos for AP Classroom and YouTube Channels. Most recently, she was one of eight members of the AP Spanish Language and Culture Development Committee. In 2022, she was named Connecticut's Language Teacher of the Year. She lives in Connecticut, where she teaches AP Spanish Language and Culture and chairs a world languages department at a private school |

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This transformative APSI is designed to equip educators with the knowledge, skills, and resources to excel in teaching the newly updated AP Spanish Language and Culture curriculum. Participants will deeply explore the restructured digital exam framework, focusing on the streamlined scoring guidelines and the implementation of the new AP World Language Course Project. We will unpack the structural phases of the project, ensuring you can confidently guide students as they analyze authentic target-language sources, build deep cultural connections, and construct their Personalized Project Reference (PPR) for exam day.
The institute will also look closely at the modernized Free Response Questions (FRQs), including the higher-weighted Argumentative Essay, the Project Presentation, and the spontaneous Project Q&A task. Through collaborative planning sessions, educators will discover innovative teaching strategies—such as project-based learning and digital assessment integration via the Bluebook platform—to share best practices and lesson plans. By the end of the week, you will be fully equipped to navigate this new testing landscape and cultivate a deep passion for the Spanish language and culture in your students.

Daily, we will prepare participants to effectively teach various modes of communication and steps for the newly revised exam. Through interpretive, interpersonal, and presentation modes, we will engage with a variety of authentic resources. and practice applying the exam´s scoring criteria to student samples. At the end of the institute, teachers will be equipped with the tools to create or reinforce a successful AP program.
