JIM LEHNER
I have been teaching science (environmental science, physics and chemistry) since 1993 and have taught at The Taft School since 2000. I have been an APES Exam Reader since 2005 and presently serve both as a Question Leader and as a member of the APES Test Development Committee. I look forward to working with you this summer and sharing good ideas and methods with you and also learning the same from you.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This workshop is designed for teachers new (or fairly new) to teaching AP Environmental Science (APES). This multidisciplinary course incorporates elements from chemistry, ecology, physics and geology. Therefore this course will incorporate many different methods of conveying disparate content to your students while also focusing on how to support classroom learning through appropriate laboratories and field investigations. These diverse field investigations will stress experimental design and scientific principles through first-hand studies of and visits to local ecosystems, forested regions, agricultural settings and pertinent technological facilities. Furthermore, participants will delve deeply into both the College Board’s APES Course and Exam Description (a lovely hard copy of the APES CED will be provided to you) and the online support materials that the College Board has created and supports.
Participants will create an APES Unit Organizer and Sequence Guide that aligns to their school’s calendar and can be used to create a true APES Syllabus to satisfy the College Board’s audit requirement in the near future. Participants will also create an APES Free Response Question (FRQ) that involves some mathematics and three (only 3!) multiple choice questions. I look forward to working hard with you this summer and attaining a successful outcome to our time together!
